We think new Sugar-Free Glee Gum is a
keeper! Have you tried it yet? Here’s a
way to do so, for cheaper! Save 50 cents
on a box of Sugar-Free Glee with this
printable, in-store
coupon.
Sugar-Free Glee is all natural, like
the rest of the Glee Gum line. But it’s
our first gum sweetened with 100%
xylitol from American beech and birch
trees. Xylitol is a safe choice for lots
of folks on restricted diets, and it can
help benefit dental health, fight
cavities, reduce plaque, and even clear
nasal passages! Available in Lemon-Lime
and Refresh-Mint flavors, Sugar-Free
Glee Gum is really yum.
Sugar-Free Glee Gum can be found at
retail locations across the country,
including many of the Weis Markets in
PA, MD, and NY, Whole Foods Markets in
AL, AZ, CA, CT, DC, GA, HI, KY, MA, MD,
ME, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN,
and VA, and Cost Plus World Markets
nationwide. (Coupon policies vary by
store). Be sure to let us know how you
like it!

An Eek-O-Friendly Halloween
Forget orange and black.
Halloween is going green! And we
love
participating in
Green
Halloween®, a non-profit, grassroots
initiative striving to create healthier,
eco-friendlier holidays. Here, founders Lynn
Colwell and Corey Colwell-Lipson, a dynamic
mother-daughter duo, share some spooky
statistics that inspired them to celebrate
Halloween differently.
1. Today’s
trick-or-treaters have a life expectancy that is
shorter than their parents.
2. One in three
trick-or-treaters born today will develop
diabetes.
3. One-third of America’s
trick-or-treaters are overweight; 17% are
considered obese.
4. Over 6,000 synthetic
chemicals are used in the processed-food
industry. Most Halloween treats are processed.
5. A 2004 study with 1,800
three-year-old children found that behavior
measurably improved after a one week diet
without preservatives and artificial colors, and
dramatically worsened on the weeks they were
given preservatives and artificial colors
(present in most Halloween candy).
The facts above are freaky,
but the
Green Halloween movement is all about fun.
To go from “eek!” to “eco” in a flash, here are
five of Lynn and Corey’s simple tips.
1. When it comes to
costumes and décor—reuse, borrow, swap, purchase
used, or do-it-yourself.
2. Treat bags can be
anything! Consider purses, flower pots (cover
the hole), cloth sacks, backpacks, and
lunchboxes.
3. Choose healthier treats.
4. Walk from house to house
instead of driving.
5. Compost pumpkins and any
other food, including leftover candy.
For lots more ideas, visit
GreenHalloween.org. You can learn how to get
involved locally, sign up for the free
newsletter, or help your favorite kid enter a
trick-or-treat bag design contest. And keep your
eyes peeled for
Green Halloween events
popping up all over the country, from “wild”
parties at the zoo to community costume swaps.

New
App Shows What's In That
Nutrition labels can be
baffling. Even if you read them
really
closely, you still could have no idea what
they’re saying! Enter
Honest Label, a smartphone
application that allows you to scan the barcodes
of food at your local grocery store and learn
more about what’s inside them.
Honest Label
identifies controversial ingredients, suggests
healthier alternatives, and displays nutrition
information with respect to your desired daily
values. Going gluten free? Avoiding aspartame?
No problem. How ‘bout that app!
“I’m dedicated to empowering shoppers with
information that will assist them in making
healthier and more informed decisions in the
grocery store,” says Taylor Ernst, CEO of
Honest Label
Foods. His app
just launched, and Glee Gum is proud to be one
of the first products entered into the Honest
Label system. Sure, there are apps to make your
voice sound like a chipmunk's, or give others the
impression that you are gargling mouthwash (when
you aren’t). But neither of those can help you
to eat better. Although that chipmunk voice
does
sound funny.
Celebrating with Glee, Locally!
