Greener Ways to Party

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Here at Glee Gum, we love to celebrate. New gum flavors, old gum flavors, birthdays, holidays, Fridays– there’s always a worthy cause! This year, we’re excited to incorporate more eco-friendly ideas into our festivities.

Vintage Party

Our pals Lynn Colwell and Corey Colwell-Lipson of Celebrate Green have lots of great tips. This nifty mother and daughter duo are the co-authors of Celebrate Green! Creating Eco-Savvy Holidays, Celebrations and Traditions for the Whole Family, available at www.CelebrateGreen.net.

Here are some of their suggestions:

* If you are giving gifts, make them earth-friendly. Potted plants make great centerpieces and can be given away.

* Provide drinks in pitchers, punch bowls or glass bottles. Avoid disposable cups and plates.

* Have your party early enough in the day so that lights are not necessary. If you use decorative lighting, ensure that it is LED or solar.

* Serve filtered tap water. It’s so easy to hit one of the big box stores and pick up cartons of water if you’re hosting a picnic or barbecue, but you can save money and the planet when you choose to drink and serve filtered tap water instead.

* If you have leftovers, compost, send home with guests or donate if you can. Unopened bags, boxes and cans can be taken to a local food bank.

* Consider having your party or celebration benefit a local cause. Invite guests to bring books for local book drives, coats for a coat drive, school supplies or whatever else your local community needs.

* Clean up with eco-friendly products and be sure to place recycling bins where guests will use them.

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies! As a mascot, I am contractually obligated to mention that Glee Gum also makes a swell party favor. Wee Glee is big fun at baby showers, and Mini Glee Gum makes wedding guests grin.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s party!

Hot off the Presses! Glee Gum Feature

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Our brand is growing! And so is this once-humble mascot’s ego.

Check out Glee Gum in Adweek Magazine!

Then ask me why I blush and beam, not to mention scheme and dream of world domination!

(I’d insert an evil laugh here, but you know I’m strictly Glee-ful.)

Seal of Approval

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Just had to share the Glee-ful news that Glee Gum is Ashley Koff Approved!

AKA logo purple-1This means that Glee Gum has received the stamp of quality nutrition for optimal health from Ashley Koff, RD. This registered dietitian is the go-to gal for advice on healthy product choices. She is also the resident nutritionist for the CW’s “Shedding for the Wedding” and Lifetime’s “Love Handles.” Check out what Ashley recommends for groceries, beauty products, dietary supplements, and more. As she points out, the AKA stamp can’t be bought– it’s earned!

We feel proud. :)

UK Goes the Veggie Way!

Friday, May 27th, 2011

You heard all the juicy details about the Royal Wedding, right? Well, the latest news from our pals across the pond may not be meaty. But it’s– arguably– just as tantalizing. Let’s hear it for National Vegetarian Week in the United Kingdom!

NVW Combined Logo2011

Created by the Vegetarian Society and sponsored by Cauldron Foods, the event runs through Sunday. Celebrating Memorial Day weekend with friends and family? Take advantage of some of the delicious, nutritious free recipes you can download from the Society. The group also offers nifty inspirational ideas for schools, businesses, and more. And all of our UK friends should be sure to check out the local events happening near them!

In between eating all manner of veggie treats, be sure to cleanse your palate with a piece of Glee Gum. It’s Vegetarian Society-approved too!

Big Boy Salad 1

They call this dish the "Big, Bad Boy Salad." All we can say is, um, yum!

Sweet Potato Burger 2

A sweet potato burger with griddled pineapple and a chili salsa? Yes, please! Oh, the joys of being vegetarian...

How to Make Glee Gum!

The chewiness of Glee comes from the sap of a tree! Want to see? Come with me on a guided photo tour of how Glee Gum is made!
